I would like to introduce you to the person behind the beautiful infinity scarves found on our website, Barb Vogan. Not only is Barb a talented scarf maker but she is also my mom which makes her very special in my books! Last week I had the pleasure of sitting down with her to ask her some questions about Thea-Bel.
First Some Background
My mom is a retired school teacher, she stopped teaching when I was born so that she could concentrate on being a mom. In terms of moms she is pretty awesome and I hope to raise my daughter half as well as she raised my brother and me. These days mom keeps herself very busy with a very part time job, volunteer work, yoga, travelling, camping, spoiling her grand-daughter... Basically she enjoys the retired life!
Here is our interview, I hope you enjoy learning a little bit more about her.
Why Infinity Scarves?
I was on a cruise last year and my friend had made a bunch of infinity scarves as gifts for her overseas relatives. The scarves were beautiful and I thought would make excellent gifts. When visiting my friend a few months later she showed me how to make them and I have been making scarves since.
How do you select the fabrics for your scarves?
I tend to choose fabrics that catch my attention and that I really like. To save time when creating the scarves I make multiple ones of the same pattern so that I don't have to change the bobbin. This means that I am staring at the same pattern for a long time so I better like it!
What is your favorite scarf?
The one I am currently working on is usually my favorite. If I have to choose one... maybe the pink and orange one.
When did you start making scarves?
I started making infinity scarves in November but have been making thread scarves for the last couple years.
When did you start sewing?
I started sewing in junior high as part of home economics.
What do you hope people get from your scarves?
I hope that it brightens up people's outfits and makes them smile.
What prompted you to join Thea-Bel?
My daughter started the company and twisted my arm... Now that I am signed up though I am happy to have somewhere for my scarves to go.
Do you have any new and exciting products/projects coming up?
Not at the moment. I am currently working on my new sewing room so might do some more sewing soon.
