For those of you who are new could you remind everyone what you do for work and how you got involved with Thea-Bel?
I first heard about Thea-Bel when I saw an ad on Kijiji. I got in touch and the rest is history.
What are you working on right now?
I am currently making a pet urn for a person who has just lost her long time friend (a dog). I am using native poplar, which has a great and unique wood grain. I am incorporating on the lid an inlay from a a piece of wood the dog always chewed on, sounds a little gross but I cut the wood down and laminated the pieces together, which will be left a natural color. The rest of the urn is stained a dark color. [sounds beautiful]
What is your favorite part about doing what you do?
When do you create your items, is there a specific time of the day you work on them?
Was anyone influential in you ending up creating what you do?What started me in this wood work was a request from my mother (who has just recently passed on) to make her a personal urn for whenever the time might be. I used wood from the farm where she had spent most of her life . From this I got thinking maybe other people would maybe be interested in this type of thing. I have gotten some good ideas from people and one of my creations was an urn made from a fella's grandfathers old wood chair. His wife loves it.
Any Big Plans for New Items?
I am always thinking of ways to make each item a personal one for the client. That's where I get my enjoyment, when I see how happy they are with the object. I like to work with materials that they have given me (if it's usable), this can be wood from any kind of item.
Is there Anything Else You Want People To Know?
If you are interested in a custom piece please contact me through Thea-Bel.
