Our feature supplier this month is Lindsey Gagnon Photography & Art.
Chances are you have seen her beautiful photographs, crochet items and glass paintings on Thea-Bel. If not, I encourage you to check them out. She is a multi-talented powerhouse that is up to trying just about anything. This month I had the opportunity to sit down with her to ask some questions.
I've know Lindsey now for almost five years. We met shortly after we moved to Langdon as she lives a couple doors down from us. Sharing many mutual interests (we both studied marketing and she is also a vegetarian). Once I found out she was a photographer, she became my go to family picture taker (she has a studio in her house so it is fantastic for getting pictures of the little one). Lindsey is happily married to Jason and has two beautiful children (Georgia & Colby).
Here is our interview, I hope you enjoy it!
What drew you to photography, crochet & glass art?
I first started developing my interest in photography when my children were young. When visiting a friend I saw a family photo of theirs that was just beautiful and wanted similar quality ones for my family. I found out what kind of camera the picture had been taken with and found a used one on Kijiji with a couple lenses for a few hundred bucks and started clicking away. Once I started displaying my pictures I started to get comments from friends and family that I had a good eye for photography. I enjoyed taking the photos and seemed to have a knack for it so I started taking courses to develop my skills. The rest is history.
I was first drawn to crochet when I started my weight loss journey. It was a tool that was recommended to me as it keeps the hands busy. Once I started I was hooked and now constantly have a project on the go.
Glass art started when I wanted to make personalized gifts for friends and family. It keeps me busy and I have a lot of fun with it.
How long have you been doing this?
I started taking pictures six years ago, have been crocheting for less than a year and have been doing glass paintings for around five years.
How do you decide what to create?
I have a really short attention span so I am always trying new things. I'll see something I like and then try to replicate it. With photographs if something catches my eye I will get out my camera and see what results I can get.
Any big plans for new items?
I plan to start making some Christmas or winter items. Haven't figured it all out but likely some hats, Christmas paintings, shawls... anything else that catches my fancy.
What do you hope people get from your items?
That is a big question... I hope that people find comfort in my items and maybe something they find pretty.
Do you have a favorite item you have created?
Yes, I made this teal and purple blanket for Thea-Bel that I just love. Part of why this one is so special to me is that it is one of the first projects I have created that has straight lines to it. I'm not sure why but I just couldn't crochet in a straight line until I made this blanket.
What prompted you to join Thea-Bel?
I joined Thea-Bel because I love the process of creating new things but then have no idea what to do with them. I make things and then end up with boxes of items sitting at my house. Now I can make things and know they will find a home.
Is there anything else that you want people to know?
I love what I do! I also want people to know that I am happy to do custom work. I love challenges and taking on new things. I am happy to tackle just about anything. [If you are interested in custom work from any of our vendors please visit our custom page for more information].
Is there anywhere besides Thea-Bel that someone can get your items?
Well there you go, I hope you enjoyed learning more about Lindsey. If you have any questions for her, please add a note in the comments and we will see what we can do to get an answer for you.
Don't forget that you can get one of Lindsey's beautiful cards free with a $20 purchase this month (free shipping over $50 as well). This is while supplies last and as these cards have been popular we are down to the last two cards...
