This month our feature vendor is Magpie Pie. If you haven't had a chance to check out the items they have available for sale, be sure to. Jennifer creates amazing book earrings that make great gifts for any book lovers!
This month we sat down with Jennifer to ask her some questions.
First Some Background
Jennifer and I met through a mutual friend many years ago but it wasn't until she joined the Calgary BookCrossing group that we really got to know each other. Jennifer keeps herself very busy and is currently doing her Masters in Environmental Studies.
What Attracted You to Making Book Earrings?
I was browsing around on Instructables (it's a website on how to make things), it was something that I used to do a lot. I saw some book earrings and I just had to try to make them. They turned out great so I made some more. I took a batch to my book group and the response was amazing with everyone wanting a pair.
How Long Have You Been Making Your Creations?
It's been around two years now. Off and on as it is just for fun.
How Do You Decide What to Create?
Mostly I get my inspiration from my paper choices. I look for paper that catches my eye and I find inspiring.
Any Big Plans for New Items?
I really want to get into sustainability items. I'm very interested in zero waste and up-cycled products. I have so many ideas but with school right now I don't have much time to work on them.
What Do You Hope People Get From Your Items?
I hope my earrings can help share people's love of reading. I'm hoping they are conversation starters. [I can say that they are! I have heard numerous stories from customers about people stopping them on the street to make comments about their earrings. The latest took place overseas with the customer wearing the Maple Leaf earrings. Someone saw them and asked if they were Canadian.]
Do You Have a Favorite Product That You Have Created?
Actually yes. I really like knitting socks. I knit some and then give them away.
What Prompted You to Join Thea-Bel?
I joined because of you. I also really liked the idea of being hands off and able to sell and support local.
Is There Anything Else You Want People To Know?
Stay tuned... I'm hoping to have some more time once school is completed and would love to turn some of my ideas into creations available for sale.
Is There Anywhere Besides Thea-Bel That People Can Get Your Items?
No. I used to have an Etsy store but I found it was too much work.
Do You Do Custom Work?
Not so much right now. Maybe later...
